OCASI is strongly committed to building the capacity of organizations and individuals serving immigrants and refugees to respect and embrace the rich diversity of sexuality and gender present in our region. We have developed several self -directed and facilitated trainings, resources, and guides on issues related to working with LGBTQIA+ newcomers. The Positive Spaces Initiative, which was first conceived in 2008, continues to adapt and grow to incorporate the voices of the sector, of people with lived experience, and of the broader LGBTQIA+ community. Our in-person trainings, online courses, resources, and roundtables assist settlement workers in updating their knowledge and skills to respond effectively to the needs of LGBTQIA+ immigrants and refugees.
